Q & A's

Lisa Corbett APRN, BC, CWOCN

SAWC: What are your name, title and accreditations?
LC: Lisa Corbett APRN BC CWOCN

SAWC: What is your session title? Could you briefly describe the content (ie, your learning objectives)?
LC: Session 35: "Continuum of Care: Transitioning Patients Across Settings".
Consistent with current national health care goals to improve overall coordination of care, we recognize the many opportunities to improve wound care delivery.
Our objective is to explore best practices and models for effective wound care transitions across settings to ensure optimum outcome, safety and efficiency.

SAWC: Who do you feel should attend SAWC and why?
LC: Any wound care practitioner, scientist or educator can benefit from attending the SAWC/WHS! This is the largest interdisciplinary wound conference held and it really embodies the "One Vision - Many Faces - One Family" motto. There are many opportunities for learning and networking and exploring products at every level -from novice to expert - from bedside to bench - it is a rich venue for interaction about wounds!

SAWC: What do you like best about the event?
LC: The interdisciplinary nature of the event is the big advantage for me. At satellite breakfast meetings or a poster session or a pre-conference, I can find opportunities for conversations with a physical therapist, a scientist, a nutritionist, a PhD research scientist, a product salesperson or a wound center physician. Since the nature of wound healing - and healthcare in general - demands this transdisciplinary approach, I see attendance at this event as vital to my practice. In addition, I look forward to seeing friends and colleagues at the meeting each year - the networking from this event has been tremendous.

SAWC: What are you most looking forward to (or looking forward to hearing/seeing) at Fall 2009 SAWC?
LC: This year I am looking forward to attending the new " Limb preservation" session track, and the Advanced Clinical track sessions on "Wound Diagnostics" and "NPUAP Pressure Ulcer Update". I am also active in the AAWC Wound Care Specialty Council and look forward to seeing my colleagues for our annual "in person" SAWC meeting after a year of teleconference work together.

SAWC: Why do you attend the SAWC?
LC: I look forward to learning about new trends in wound care: therapeutic advances, scientific understanding, regulatory issues, and products. I usually go with a few specific goals for improving my personal knowledge on a specific topic. But I always come home with a broadened perspective and many new clinical applications to improve wound outcomes in my patient population.

SAWC: Is this your first or presentation at SAWC?
LC: This is my forth presentation at SAWC. Starting out as an AAWC committee volunteer several years ago, and through project work on the Government and Regulatory committee and now on the Wound Care Specialty Council, I have been mentored by many distinguished leaders in these organizations. Volunteering with the AAWC or WHS is a great opportunity to become involved, gain expertise and it opens doors to speaking and leadership in the field.

SAWC: What are your name, title and accreditations.
DF: Daniel Federman, MD. Professor of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, Firm Chief, Primary Care, VA Connecticut Health Care System.

SAWC: What is your session title? Could you briefly describe the content (ie, your learning objectives)?
DF: Peripheral Arterial Disease: From Foundation to Newest Trends

SAWC: Who do you feel should attend SAWC and why?
DF: A unique aspect of this conference is how multi-disciplinary it truly is. I am always amazed at the diverse nature of attendees: physical therapists, dieticians, nurses, APRN's, physicians, surgeons, PhD's, podiatrists, industry, etc. What they all have in common is deep desires to help patients with wounds get better.

SAWC: What do you like best about the event?
DF: Very committed people from various disciplines with a passion for wound healing from all over the world come together to exchange ideas.

SAWC: What are you most looking forward to (or looking forward to hearing/seeing) at Fall 2009 SAWC?
DF: Learning about practice from other areas of the country.

SAWC: Why do you attend the SAWC?
DF: I know that through the leadership of such luminaries as Robert Kirsner, Evonne Fowler, William Ennis, William Eaglestein, and Jeffrey Davidson (among many others) there is a strong tradition of outstanding educational programs and the opportunity to learn cutting edge material.

SAWC: Is this your first or presentation at SAWC?
DF: I've been fortunate to have attended and presented at numerous SAWC meetings. It is something that is always on my calendar every year and actively looked forward to.
